We are looking for a dedicated Engineering Manager to join our engineering community. Together you are building, enhancing and supporting the next generation of our platform. This role is perfect for software development managers or highly experienced software engineers with a desire to move into a servant-leadership role.
As an Engineering Manager, you will manage, mentor and lead a team of software engineers, ensuring that they can do their very best work. Your role is to support and champion the team, ensure they keep learning and improving, and that they are highly engaged! You will ensure their code is first-class and that their designs and solutions are both elegant and simple. We will not compromise on security or quality, and you will help ensure this.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, lead and support a team of highly engaged and motivated software engineers.
- Create a team environment which is open and transparent and in which everyone shares accountability for delivery.
- Understand the overall roadmap and strategic direction; clarify and contribute to these; look for opportunities to innovate.
- Be the domain expert for the systems your team is building and use your experience to inform strategy as well as support your own team.
- Guide the planning processes for your team so that code can be delivered frequently with value released each time.
- Ensure all code meets quality standards and has excellent levels of test coverage needed so that it can be deployed to production multiple times per day.
- Work with your team, product owners, architects and others to build the software required to meet all functional and non-functional requirements.
- Drive innovation and learning, look for ways to build simple, elegant solutions.
- Act as team coordinator and guarantee all SCRUM ceremonies are properly mediated.
- Track appropriate metrics and objectives for your team; use this insight to plan and deliver improvements.
- Seek opportunities to share learning with other teams and stakeholders across the organization.
- Mentor the whole team – ensure everyone has clear objectives and development plans.
- Manage performance proactively, provide clear feedback whilst being an active listener.
- Work across teams to lead dependencies and ensure teams can collaborate effectively.
- With your team, provide technical support for your services, ensuring any issues can be resolved quickly.
- Proactively manage risk and technical debt to ensure our systems remain healthy, easy to work on and fully compliant with relevant standards.
- Be a continual learner and nurture a growth mindset among your team.
Capabilities and Experience
- This role is ideal for experienced software development managers or senior/lead software engineers who want to move into a line-management role.
- Previous experience managing agile development teams OR 2-4 years’ experience as a team technical lead.
- Good understanding of object-oriented programming mainly in Microsoft. Net Core, C# and supporting technologies.
- Experience in web application development and designing cloud solutions with Azure or similar enterprise Cloud solution such as AWS is highly desirable.
- Good understanding of front-end development using technologies such as Angular, React, Type Script, Node JS, Java Script, JQuery, HTML5, CSS 3.0, Materialize and bootstrap frameworks.
- Proficiency in Synchronous/Asynchronous communication via Web APIs or Messaging frameworks.
- Solid understanding of object-oriented software development concepts, SOLID principles and design patterns.
- Very strong practical understanding of cyber security threats and secure coding practices.
- Experience working with SQL Databases such as Microsoft SQL Server, My SQL or Postgres in constructing complex queries and stored procedures.
- Experience in No-SQL databases would be a plus.
- Experience with REST microservices, Docker and Azure.
- Proficiency on Git or similar Source Control systems.
- Understanding on container-based development such as Docker is a plus.
- Great interpersonal and communications skills to be part of a team spread over multiple locations.
- Excellent time management and teamwork skills.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to document and provide knowledge transfer materials for work completed.
- BSc in Computer Science or any IT degree.
