Job Details OVERVIEW As part of our investment into Technology, Operations and Product, Kantar is looking to recruit a Director of Software Engineering in our Product and Platform Engineering team in Kantar’s new strategic development hub in Porto. Kantar has a major technology transformation underway and are replacing all core systems, we are investing heavily in transforming our ways of working including investing in robotics, AI, and the automation of all our end-to-end process, whilst moving to build a more product orientated business and our commitment to Software Engineering excellence across our engineering function is critical to underpin this. You will not be alone – you will be part of a wider team, bringing together engineering scrums, architects, DevOps specialists and other experts from around the world. Reporting to in Kantar’s Technology division, this role will be accountable for all aspects of Software Engineering across our Product and Platform Engineering technology product offering. This role will have its core focus in one of the following Solution Set areas: Brand, Analytics, Marketplace, and Creative/Media. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Build, lead and support the teams of highly engaged and motivated software engineers Drive engineering excellence across the entire SDLC whilst looking for opportunities to improve the ways we work Define and refine role profiles for each position in the team Manage a group of teams, ensuring every team member has the support they need to do their best work Nurture talent, working with your colleagues across the wider organisation to ensure everyone has clear objectives and personal development plans. We believe in team-first objectives and constant learning at all levels Manage dependencies and avoid constraints so that the teams can focus on delivering value to our customers Be a champion of high-quality engineering practices and fast-feedback loops. Drive secure practices in everything the team does. Apply Capacity and Performance Management practices, ensuring our platforms are always ready to handle the volumes our customers expect Evangelise DevOps and DevSecOps practices Coordinate regular and thorough security testing and proactively manage risk Be a continual learner and nurture a growth mindset amongst your teams Provide thought-leadership on best practice with your own teams and your fellow teams across the wider organisation. Identify opportunities for improvement across any aspect of the value delivery chain and within the Software Engineering discipline. Build plans to drive improvement. Be part of a wider leadership team across the organisation, sharing best practice and ensuring the successful delivery of customer value. Responsible for large Quality Assurance teams (25+) further supplemented by third party suppliers and associated budgets of £xm+ CAPBILITIES AND EXPERIENCE As part of the Extended Technology Leadership Team, the person will need be able to navigate a complex, relationship driven, environment that is undergoing a period of transformation. The person will need to be able to deal with uncertainty and constantly moving parts until the structure of the standalone Kantar business is fully established. Unlocks potential and inspires commitment Demonstrates a strong sense of ownership and delivery focus Understands the bigger picture and can solve big problems creatively Leads and manages others effectively, coaching and giving feedback to support development Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on active listening and able to explain technical information simply and clearly to key business stakeholders Ability to coach software engineers – understanding any problems they face and enabling them to find solutions, especially through their own learning ROLE EXPERIENCE Experience as Head of Software Development or similar role, building and managing at least two agile teams Extensive hands-on experience as a lead software engineer (development and/or testing) or architect Extensive experience at interviewing engineers and managing their performance and development Experience managing production releases Experience tracking and improving quality at all stages of development Training, certification and/or extensive reading in Lean-Agile development practices Experience working with teams across multiple countries Experience building and supporting production-grade applications in the public cloud (esp.
